Quick Start: translations? 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 🇮🇩 🇲🇾

Hi Johnny, a suggestion on the baserow table: to have one or two new coulums for alternatives translations.

In the French section, I m not sure about some categories. Need time and test to feel if it’s good to use in French context. But I don’t want to replace and forget the first proposition :slightly_smiling_face:

We are 3 to translate, si it will be cool to identify where there is hesitation, alternative and adaptation.

Added a long-text Notes column.

Just did French; anyone else let me know if you want the same.

Hi Johnny,

some German terms are not “correct” or as I’d translate them (e. g. “owed” [geschuldet] → “schuldig” [guilty]).

How should improvement suggestions be handled?

As an aside: why is the term “system management” used several times instead of just one time?

Have a chat with the other Germans here – @phlpptmpl and @yte are the two I can see, there may be others. Feel free to start a new thread in German like the one for French.

Because I was lazy when I copy/pasted the system! It appears once per category and I didn’t de-duplicate. See also archive, I guess?

Count me in.

For the record, my name is in the table for Dutch, but it was all @_FJ!

Japanese is at 100% now.

I was able to add a Notes column myself; left some translation notes for rows where the translation doesn’t match 1:1 with the original or when there’s no corresponding thing in Japan and I opted to just do a literal translation. There’s a “With Notes” view that’s filtered to rows with notes.

Amazing! I haven’t forgotten about this amazing work. It will come to life when I build the little system-builder app for ‘small business’; the same app will build any JD system, and I’ll be releasing an update to ‘life admin’.

I’ve got a bunch of that work already done, won’t be too long now.

Hey everyone,
what is the best way to generate a translated file structure/JDEX ?

For the file structure I hacked together a python script[0] but it feels like there could be a solution already ?

Hi :waving_hand:
@johnnydecimal Can I get an invite to translate to Portuguese :portugal: PT-PT

Sent! New, blank Portuguese table is here.

Note there’s a Brazilian Portuguese table already if there’s any inspiration to be taken. I’ve no idea how much they diverge. (How much do they diverge?)

Thank you @johnnydecimal
Brazilian Portuguese is very similar to Portuguese (it’s Portuguese either way), but there are some nuances that make it diverge in some words or expressions.
We understand each other, but there are some expressions and words that refer to the same thing that we say differently, and sometimes it is strange to read for each other.

I think it can be a title similar to Spanish from Spain and from other countries that speak Spanish. Or like English from the US, UK, or AUS.

I’m going to work on that soon!

Yeah where people from the UK speak English and the other two speak some sort of bastardised parody of the language?

Here are some examples I already found that are different from Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese from Portugal:

System management Gerenciamento do sistema Gestão do sistema
Personal records Registros pessoais Registos pessoais
Immunity Imunização Imunidade
Habits, routines, & planning Hábitos, rotinas e planejamento Hábitos, rotinas e planeamento

I can have a go with a Swedish translation - I’ve done a few translations of open source projects (mostly WordPress tools and AddOns)!

A kind offer, thank you – but French is complete.

Amazing! May I send a Baserow.io invitation to the email address you use here? Or if you’d rather another address just DM it to me.

Swedish table is here once you’re in.
