A friendly Decimal emailed the other day inquiring about translations of the Quick Start pack.
I’m busy, and obviously I can’t do this myself, but I don’t want to just say no to this idea. So, throwing it out here: useful? Could people contribute? Would it be enough to have the folders and index entries, i.e. not the full PDF manual?
I guess that’s the question: would structure-only be fine? Here are the levels as I see them.
Basic structure. File system. Index note with no contents.
As above, with index note contents.
As above, with the other ‘flavours’ of file system (no emoji etc.) and index entries (Obsidian etc.).
As above, with the manual.
Levels 1-3 would be made much simpler if I wrote a little script to create the various ‘flavours’ of file system/notes from one base version. I did that mostly manually for the release version, making updates more laborious (and error-prone).
My partner and I volunteer to do Arabic. I’m a native speaker so can guarantee it’ll be done correctly, and she can use the opportunity to practice a bunch of new words!
You probably have your system that works well for you. But if you could use help with templating and stuff, that’s a way I could and would be glad to help.
Okay, well this feels like an idea with some legs.
We’re just giving the website a refresh — I think you’ll like what you see — and we tend to just do one thing at a time. So when that’s done, I’ll come back to this.
I’ve set up a Baserow for this. Like Airtable, but free for the limited features we need.
I need to send you an email invitation, so DM me your address please.
I’ve kept it really simple. One table per language. Just two columns: the current text, and the translated text. Just the folder structure at this stage.
