Tons of media - how to store?

I am a fairly active photographer (video and stills) and I figure I can store the files in the JDex according to content, but I would also like to have the overview of how much I have of media files - so what is the best way to organize media files?

Is it a medial library with folders according to JDex and then a reference in the index as to the location, or how to best approach this?

Media is one of those things that I generally recommend using a dedicated media library for. Photographs don’t neatly fit into IDs, and even if they did, that probably wouldn’t confer any benefit. The point of Johnny.Decimal IDs is to help you find a thing. But when you want to find ‘a photo’, you know where it is: it’s in your library software.

So then photographs do greatly benefit from a tag-like system. Where, when, with which camera, containing which subject, and so on. Which your media library software should provide.

Thank you - I was along those lines

I would now consider to tag selected media with the relevant JDex ID(s) to indicate specific utilization of those media.

This could be when I use certain media for an informational folder or poster, what media clips are used in a video etc. These products will of cause have their own ID’s inside the system.
