Seeking Feedback on my structure

Hi there,
I’m currently planning a JD structure for my personal files. I would like to hear your opinions on my current vision, before i start with some “errors” / unfortunate things, that could have been avoided.

I know that I sometimes use 3 deep indices, but I can’t see a logical way to avoid these at the locations, where they are used.

That’s my structure, would love to hear some critique  :

Overall that looks pretty good.

I just updated 11.03 IDs the other day: check it out.

Notably, I’ve changed my stance on ‘no folders-in folders’. Now, as long as you’re careful, I think that’s okay. Your system looks okay.

I probably would not bother giving those subfolders numbers, like your 11.02.01 KeePass for Finances. I think this is enough:

10-19 Personal Docs
   11 Personal
      11.01 Personal Details
      11.02 Password Vaults
            KeePass for Finances
            Backup of Bitwarden
            KeePass for genereal stuff
      11.03 ...

Just some curious points

  • What do you store in 02?
  • I get the subfolders, but why not make 11.01 KeePass Finance, 11.03 Bitwarden Backups, 11.04 Keepass General?
  • Your structure/areas/categories look a lot like mine. Would love to hear what you think of my structure.
  • Love the structure. Very clear. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for your feedback. That’s a valid point, I can save myself some numbering headache if I just remove them for things like each password vault.

Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate your curiosity about my numbering system. Here are some clarifications:

Regarding the use of ‘02’, it’s an area I’m still fine-tuning. My current idea is to use it for an Obsidian vault dedicated to Johnny Decimal-related notes. However, if I find it unnecessary in practice, I might repurpose or remove this category.

As for the password vaults, I initially thought of creating separate categories for each (like KeePass Finance, Bitwarden Backups, KeePass General, etc.). However, I realized they all essentially serve the same purpose, so I opted for a more streamlined approach.

Your structure definitely piqued my interest, and it seems we have similar organizational strategies. I have a few questions about your setup that might help refine mine. I’ll comment on your post to discuss further.
