Organizing File System

I am curious how people actually organize their electronic files. My sense is that for each system there is one large folder – eg., Domain1, Domain2 … And that within in this are individual folders (or files) one for each ID – eg, 15.11.01, 15.11.02, etc.

Is this the canonical method - to reduce levels of nesting?

Personally I have folders at the level of Area, Category and ID as per the example screenshots.



From the Council Tax and TV licence I assume you’re in the UK, and from the Category for cars where you make space to have 100 of them, I assume you’re royalty?
