New and confused. Obsidian help needed

Hello. I’m new here. I am trying to build everything into a currently used Obsidian vault.

So I dragged the folders into my vault. I got that part. But do I put each of the markdown files in each of the folders? All 152 items? It just seems like there’s an easier way that I am not thinking of.

Thanks for any help.

Recognising that there’s no ‘one way’ of doing this, most people seem to prefer the following method.

  • Your JDex – this Obsidian vault – is separate from your filesystem.
    • That is, you’re not trying to mix notes in with files. Keep a separate vault for these notes.
  • The JDex vault then has folders for your areas and categories.
  • And within these category folders you drop the individual Markdown files that represent IDs.

So here’s mine. This is the Small Business System.

Expanding category 11:

And for total clarity here’s that same view from my filesystem:

Hope that helps?

I purchased the Life Admin System. I was wondering if I’m supposed to add each of the markdown files to each of the folders? Is there an automatic way to do it?

Thanks for your response.

Yeah, the current download doesn’t accommodate Obsidian very well. When we released it I had only just started to use the app myself and didn’t know what ‘shape’ the files should take.

So, yes, just move the Markdown files in to folders.

We’re working hard on a massive upgrade to the system which will be released later this month. Rather than the current static .zip file download, you’ll be able to set your own options and the download will be created on-demand. This will support Obsidian much better.

Everyone will get migrated over when it’s finished. Doesn’t help you today though, sorry.

Ok. Thank you for your help.

I’m just writing the code that will generate these files automatically for the upcoming new version.

Give me a day at most and I’ll send you a private link with a download.

Sent you a private message.

Now I’m intrigued @johnnydecimal

Haha. Just the LAS files … but the first ever generated by my new tool.

Don’t worry, you’ll all see it soon.

I’ve been focusing on setting up JD at work (update to come soon) but having bought the workbook, I have the LAS as well. At some point I’ll look at that. This might be a good time!

I’d love to take this for a spin as well! Looking forward to the release .
