Language learning category (need advice)

Hi! Relatively new JD user here! I started trying out JD a couple months ago, and with the release with Life Admin Quick Start pack I’ve decided to go back in and rethink my system. Might make another post asking for advice on the rest of my areas, but for now I want to ask about one specific area.

So right now I’m figuring out area 40-49 Linguistics & Language. I’m a linguist so this is absolutely an area and not a category. Since language learning is a big hobby of mine (I know, very stereotypical of a linguist :joy:) I originally had Language Learning as a whole area separate from Linguistics. But I’m thinking it should be a single category instead? It’s hard b/c it is such a big area of my life, but from a file standpoint it seems to make more sense as a category.

This is my setup for this area so far
  • 41 Phonetics & Phonology
  • 42 Morphosyntax
  • 43 Semantics & Pragmatics
  • 44 Sociolinguistics
  • 45 Historical
  • 46 Acquisition
  • 47 Revitalization
  • 48 My Research
  • 49 Language Learning
    • 49.10 Language Dabbling
    • 49.11 French
    • 49.12 Japanese
    • 49.13 Irish
    • 49.14 (local language, don’t want to dox myself lol)

How have others organized their language learning? If you learn multiple languages, is each language a category of its own within one big Language Learning area? Or do you do it like this where Language Learning itself is a category? Do you have any other folders within a language? (e.g., grammar study, immersion, book clubs, language diary)? Or do you just throw everything into that ID?

A lot of questions there, but I’m curious about others’ setups!
