JDF.14.01 Evaluate Areas // Community questions regarding my areas

Hi folks,

I’m here as I have been playing around with the JD system for a while and wanted to evaluate my core areas and get opinions.

These are my areas that generally cover my life:

00-09 System Management

10-19 Personal & Planning

20-29 Privacy & Security

30-39 Health & Fitness

40-49 Career & Finance

50-59 Development & Education

60-69 Activities & Hobbies

70-79 Events & Travel

80-89 Observation & Reflection

90-99 Legacy & Results

My questions are.

  1. Are the areas comprehensive enough?
  2. How is the naming convention?
  3. Specifically, areas 80-89 & 90-99, they seem redundant. I could bump 80-89 as 90-99 and put Legacy & Results as 98-99. This would alleviate area 80-89 for some other purpose, but what that area could be, I’m not sure. Any suggestions?

These questions, but especially the third question, have been on my mind lately, and I couldn’t think of a better place to ask these questions.

This is the best place for these questions!

I would try to compress this. I’m always worried when someone uses up all of their system at the start. Now there’s nowhere left to go.

For each of these, can you think of more than a couple of categories in each? I’d want you to think at least that next level down, and probably down another level to the ID, before you lock anything in.

The situation you don’t want to end up in is where you’ve run out of room structurally, i.e. your areas & categories, but you’ve got a ton of room for content, i.e. your IDs. Because now to adjust you have to alter the fundamental shape of your system, which you want to avoid.

Try to be designing categories where you could easily imagine 10, 20, 30 IDs in there. Make them broad and fill them up!
