Hello all,
Raymond here, from Norway, and an insomniac sometimes; so this is not me being hammered from too many glasses of wonderfulness, and then signing up to JD and coming here. Possibly, maybe.
I have actually used number prefixes in my folders and subfolders in computers for many years. Oh, when did it start? Late 90s? It crept in: “Why should I let the a-z dictate my sort order? I want my Archive to be 99-Archive, and my 42-Core Questions to be there in the middle, shining bright!”
Tonight, I was telling my daily driver AI model (Opus 4.5) that I wanted number prefixes for the folders. “Ahh, Johnny Decimal”, the model responded with, and I was like “Whatt?”, so I found the youtube channel, and then the website, and here I am.
The JD system is a bit too overwhelming for my taste, but the wonderful thing is that I can ease into it, merging my muscle memory from those decades with the best practices that have been developed by Johnny & team.
There is something pleasing to know that 14.20 is a set ID; the ID for “Software & Accounts”. I don’t need to keep re-inventing my ID system for those smaller things.
So, now you know that Johnny Decimal is a thing that now also Claude from Anthropic refers to, based on the training
Thanks for creating the JD system! I wish everyone a wonderful weekend!
