I’d like to makes a mention of Joplin for note taking. It’s not my favorite app but it has all the main features you’d need for managing your index. The main reason I chose it is because it’s open source[1], it supports filesystem storage, it works with markdown, and it works on both Android and Linux. I sync my app folder between devices with Syncthing, and that’s worked wonderfully for me so far.
I really wanted to use standard notes because it has similar features and I like their honest marketing, but I switched because its free plan only supports plain text, not markdown. It’s too bad, because their app is quite beautifully designed and they have a web app, too.
