My genealogy / family history structure

@_FJ Thanks so much for sharing this. I’m coming to this very late, as I have only just discovered Johnny Decimal and am trying to see if it’s a good fit for me before jumping in on the JDU package.

One of my primary areas I want to structure is my genealogy area, and your post gives me confidence that this can be done and that it is a good use case.

My own genealogy research is slightly more complicated by the fact that I am also doing a one-name study, whereby I research all individuals with a given surname globally.

As I run a website for the study with TNG installed, which allows me to display trees to visitors researching the name, I have some confusion about where these technical systems sit in my index. Would they live in a genealogy structure or a tech structure with other apps, etc.

For individuals, aside from names and dates, I would want to include a Person ID. This is a unique number assigned to an individual in my genealogy software, in my case Reunion for Mac. I’m not sure whether to use the Person ID at the front of the document (which would order them nicely) or at the back.

Another area of concern for me would be contact information. I see you have a communication entry. How will you structure below this? Currently, I am using Obsidian to have a note for the contact person, and within that note, I keep an interaction log as well as contact details, date of last contact, trust level etc. How are you handling this?

It’s really good to see that there is interest within the forum for a genealogy use case. Can’t wait to jump further into the JD world.
